Just do the work

Got a call from a young entrepreneur today, asking how they can become a better entrepreneur.

And the answer just rolled out of my mouth: just do the work.

It's so easy to get caught in the stuff around the work. Thinking about leadership, and how to be efficient. Or feeling like an imposter. Or maybe you've already been successful so now you want to ship your Magnum Opus. Or maybe you're trying to figure out how to build the perfect startup. Or how to achieve proper work-life balance. I've sunk a lot of energy into all of that.

How about we try and shed 90% of all that stuff. Keep just a little of it - it has its uses. But mostly it's icing on the cake if you're lucky, more likely a distraction and energy sink.

Just do the work. Go build something. Take the thing you're working on, and make it better. Go find a user for it. Go talk to a user and find out what they like about it.
